If you are taking up residency in New Mexico, you must surrender your license from any other state and apply for a New Mexico license within 30 days of moving to New Mexico. All first time licensees in New Mexico, ages 18-24, inclusive (not required for persons 25 and older) are required to take the “None for the Road” DWI awareness class. The fee is $16 for a four year license or $32 for an eight year license. Drivers who are 75 years old or older must renew their licenses yearly, but they are not charged renewal fees. Alcohol laws: You must be 21 years old to purchase or drink in New Mexico. Most super markets and convenience stores sell alcohol. Bars may remain open until 2 a.m. IN New Mexico the legal limit for blood-alcohol content is 0.08 for drivers. Administrative license suspension for the first offense is 90 days, with the possibility of restored driving privileges after 30 days of suspension. There is no mandatory jail or community service for the first DWI offense.
